Our company was conceived by a small team from diverse backgrounds, all united by a passion for innovation and a drive to make a difference in the world. Here is our story so far.
In 2015, Uniti began as an open innovation research project at Lund University, a leading Swedish university. The aim of the project was to conduct research into improving the societal and environmental impact of modern cars. Following the study, the project expanded and developed into a highly innovative firm, with a particular focus on the efficient and effective application of modern technologies. Our vehicle is designed to achieve seamless human interaction, like that of modern flagship smartphones, and by using careful design and optimized manufacturing processes the carbon footprint of the vehicle is dramatically reduced.
Uniti’s first equity crowdfunding campaign took place in October 2016 on the Swedish crowdfunding platform FundedByMe. The campaign was a roaring success, successfully exceeding the crowdfunding goal in a short span of 36 hours, raising €1,6 million from 367 private investors from 29 different countries. Since then, we have been creating strategic partnerships in preparation for mass production, such as our partnership with Siemens Nordics whose software enables the entire production process to be planned in a virtual setting before implementation in the physical world.
We honed our skills and knowledge exponentially over the course of 2017 and by December, we were ready to unveil our first evaluation prototype to the public. On 7 December, we held our first annual product launch event U17 in Landskrona, Sweden. 2,000 attendees comprised of the press, insiders, enthusiasts, investors, and partners were offered a first peek into the capabilities of the Uniti One. The event also included demonstrations and symposia from teams representing 24 key partners including Nvidia, Siemens, Tele2 IoT, E.ON, KUKA Robotics, Haldex, BorgWarner, Fanuc Robots and many more.
Uniti commenced a partnership with MediaMarkt to bring Uniti vehicles to the masses. From the morning after launch, Uniti vehicles have been available to view and pre-order in two key MediaMarkt stores in Stockholm Gallerian (until April 20) and Malmö Svågertorp (until April 3). Uniti also announced our partnership with E.ON to provide a unique benefit for our Swedish customers – with the purchase of a Uniti vehicle, Swedish E.ON customers receive five years worth of energy for home charging, and the electricity is guaranteed to be solar energy. This strategic partnership is in line with our belief that not only should the products be sustainable, the entire product life cycle should be sustainable as well.
In February 2018, we expanded our horizon and concluded the first step in bringing our innovative city EV to Asia with a successful introduction at India’s Auto Expo 2018 in New Delhi. Recognized as one of the ‘top 3 electric cars’ showcased at the event, the Uniti One received considerable interest from attending press, numerous accolades from many of the expo’s 600,000+ visitors, and an expo record-breaking number of pre-orders. The successful market introduction in India was soon followed by achieving the next big milestone of surpassing the pre-order volume of 50 million euros ($61 million) in May 2018.
